TBD - Conducting an effective user interview is just as much about establishing rapport than it is about asking the right questions.
I find the GRAMS method is a great way to ensure my team can get valuable data in even a short amount of time.
I have conducted interviews for both discovery and validation phases of a product's design both in-person and remote and I have to say I really enjoy this aspect of user research.

During my time with Fidelity my team and I would perform on-site usability testing sessions for days at a time. More recently with NetApp we would perform all usability tests remotely both moderated and unmoderated using Zoom and UserTesting.
